WHAT WE OFFER

Ballet Program

Our ballet program is rooted in the Cecchetti method, providing dancers with a thoughtful and progressive approach to classical ballet training. As dancers advance, Cecchetti syllabus work is incorporated into their regular training. Students who demonstrate appropriate technical readiness, consistency and preparation may be invited to participate in Cecchetti examinations. Age ranges are provided as a general guide; class and examination placement are determined by faculty based on each dancer's training and individual development

Primary

6 - 7 years |  1 hour

Primary Ballet introduces dancers to more structured classical ballet training and establishes the technical foundations needed for future progression. Students develop posture, alignment, coordination, musicality and fundamental ballet vocabulary while learning to execute movements with increasing control and precision.

Students are gradually introduced to the terminology, class structure and technical principles that support progression into our Cecchetti syllabus and examination program.

Pre - Primary

4 - 5 years | 1 hour

Pre-Primary introduces young dancers to the structure and foundations of classical ballet while maintaining an age-appropriate approach to movement and learning. Students develop coordination, musicality, posture, balance and introductory ballet vocabulary.

This class begins preparing dancers for the increased structure and technical expectations of our Cecchetti ballet pathway, while continuing to encourage creativity, confidence and a love of movement.

Pre - Ballet

3 - 4 years | 45 min

Pre-Ballet is an introduction to dance designed for our youngest dancers. Using creative movement and introductory ballet concepts to develop coordination, musicality, body awareness and confidence in the studio. Dancers learn to follow movement instructions, explore rhythm and space, and begin building the foundations for future ballet training in an encouraging and age-appropriate environment.

Junior

8 - 11 | 1 hour

Junior Ballet builds strong classical ballet foundations while introducing dancers to increasingly detailed technical training. Students develop alignment, coordination, musicality, strength, control and quality of movement while expanding their ballet vocabulary.

Training at this level incorporates Cecchetti principles, terminology and syllabus work as appropriate. Dancers who demonstrate the necessary technical preparation, consistency and readiness may be invited to work toward a Cecchetti examination.

Placement is based on age, previous training and individual readiness.

Intermediate

12 - 14 | 1 hour 15 minutes

Intermediate Ballet provides more focused classical training for dancers ready to progress beyond the foundational levels. Students work toward greater technical accuracy, strength, alignment, coordination, musicality and artistry while developing a deeper understanding of classical ballet vocabulary.

Cecchetti methodology and syllabus work form an important part of training at this level. Eligible dancers may be prepared for the appropriate Cecchetti examination based on their previous training, technical readiness, attendance and faculty assessment.

Students are encouraged to develop the discipline, consistency and personal responsibility required as ballet training becomes more advanced.

Placement is determined by faculty assessment and is not based on age alone.

Senior Ballet continues to focus on classical training for dancers beyond the foundational levels. Students continue to work toward greater technical accuracy, strength, alignment, coordination, musicality and artistry while developing a deeper understanding of classical ballet vocabulary, style and artistry.

Senior

15 - 17 years | 1 hour 15 minutes

Senior Modern is designed for experienced dancers ready to deepen their technical understanding, movement versatility and individual artistry. Building on the foundations developed in earlier levels, dancers work with increasingly complex movement vocabulary and are challenged to approach movement with greater precision, intention and maturity.

Classes develop strength, coordination, musicality, dynamics, spatial awareness and movement quality while exploring more advanced concepts such as weight and momentum, changes of level and direction, floor work, travelling sequences and complex movement combinations.

Dancers may also explore improvisation, musical interpretation and choreographic concepts, encouraging them to make thoughtful artistic choices and develop confidence in their individual movement style.

Advanced Modern complements our Cecchetti-based ballet program by challenging dancers to apply their technical foundation in a different movement context. The goal is to develop adaptable, expressive and technically knowledgeable dancers who can confidently approach a variety of movement styles and choreography.

Previous modern training is required. Placement is based on technical readiness, previous training and faculty assessment rather than age alone.

Intermediate

12 - 14 years | 1 hour

Designed for dancers ready to develop a stronger understanding of modern dance technique while expanding their versatility and artistic expression.

Students develop strength, coordination, musicality, spatial awareness, dynamics and movement quality through technical exercises and increasingly complex movement combinations. Classes may explore concepts such as weight and momentum, changes of level and direction, travelling sequences, floor work, improvisation and choreographic exploration.

Dancers are encouraged to move beyond simply learning choreography and develop an understanding of how movement is initiated, shaped and expressed, building greater control, intention and confidence in their movement.

The class complements our Cecchetti-based ballet program by providing dancers with opportunities to explore movement qualities outside the classical vocabulary while continuing to apply strong principles of alignment, body awareness and technical control.

Placement is based on previous training, experience and individual readiness. Previous modern experience is required.

Junior

8 - 11 years | 1 hour

Junior Modern introduces dancers to the foundations of modern dance in an energetic and structured class environment. Students explore different movement qualities while developing coordination, musicality, spatial awareness, strength and confidence.

Classes introduce age-appropriate modern vocabulary, travelling movements and movement sequences while encouraging dancers to explore rhythm, dynamics and expression. Students begin learning how movement can change in quality, direction, level and energy.

Junior Modern is designed to complement ballet training while giving young dancers the opportunity to discover new ways of moving and expressing themselves.

No previous modern experience required.

Modern/Contemporary Program

We offer an eclectic modern/contemporary program based primarily on the Graham method, as well as Limon, Cunningham and Horton methodologies.

Our Modern Program is designed to develop strong, versatile and expressive dancers while complementing the technical foundations established through classical ballet training.

Classes explore a broad range of movement vocabulary and qualities, with an emphasis on alignment, coordination, strength, musicality, dynamics, use of space and expressive movement. As dancers progress, travelling sequences, floor work, weight and momentum, changes of level and direction, improvisation, and choreographic exploration are introduced and developed with greater depth.

Offered alongside our Cecchetti-based ballet program, Modern encourages dancers to develop their individual artistry, versatility and movement awareness while building the technical skills needed to confidently approach a variety of movement styles and future training opportunities.
